Who I am Matters

I come from a small town outside Redwood City, California called Emerald Hills, but I'm going to make my way to Hollywood and figure out some way to make a living making movies even if it kills me. I need to graduate, then I'm going to fight for a job at an agency. Next, I'll break out and get a job at a studio and work my way up to become a development executive and produce my own movies. I feel like I get a lot of my stubbornness and work ethic from my parents, who both fought their way to the top of their professions by working very hard and not giving up. They also taught me how to be outspoken and assert myself in groups because we always have discussions around the dinner table every night. I feel like my parents are very stubborn in all aspects of their lives, refusing to budge on even the simplest of issues, but I have learned that sometimes it’s too exhausting to be that and sometimes it is better just to let things wash over you and only fight for what really matters. I have my own expectations for myself, but I still feel like I cater to other people's expectations of me anyways, which in some ways is a good thing because I like being pushed to achieve more, yet it’s always difficult to operate under someone else’s expectations because then you have the constant fear of disappointing them hanging over your head. My father is my role model. He built everything that he has from the ground up and learned every lesson the hard way, making him both humble and wise. He spreads joy and kindness wherever he goes, and always remembers what is most important in life. He has lived an incredible life and measures his success by his collection of all of the incredible stories he has been a part of along the way. I feel a special connection with arctic foxes, because they must use their cunning and tactics to hunt and scavenge to survive in harsh climates. They also form close family units in dens which they use for nurturing and support. I try to reflect the arctic fox in my own life so that I can survive in thrive in my social climate. There was this oak tree in the backyard of my house that was quite young when I was a boy and my father built a treehouse in it. Many years later, I went with my Dad to go take the treehouse down because the tree had grown too big for it. I realized as I took it down that like the tree had outgrown the treehouse, I had outgrown my childhood and it was time for me to become a man. My sun sign is Aries, my moon sign is Gemini, and my rising sign is Cancer, if you believe in that sort of thing.
